Date Taken | Course Number | Course Name | Instructors | Course Overview
Fall 2019 | TE 802 | Reflections and Inquiry in Teaching I | Dr. Avner Segall & Peter Nelson & Kyle Chong | This course was taken simultaneously with my student teaching internship. It both helped prepare me for the History and Government classes I taught during student teaching as well as used my student teaching experiences as catalysts to thinking critically about the practice of social studies teaching.
Spring 2020 | TE 803 | Professional Roles & Teaching Practice II | Justin Detmers | From this course I have a firmer understanding of the difference between equality and equity, how to prevent teacher burnout and how to reflect on my practice as a teacher and how it interconnects with students. I was in this course when the pandemic started and I was grateful for how the professor navigated it. Not only did he shift the course online with ease but he also sent us drawings his children had made for each of us in the mail.
Spring 2020 | TE 804 | Reflections and Inquiry in Teaching II | Dr. Avner Segall & Peter Nelson & Kyle Chong | TE 804 was a continuation the following semester of TE 802. In this course we continued to explore six important understandings to Social Studies education:

Summer 2022 | CEP 810 & CEP 811 & CEP 812 | Teaching for Understanding with Technology & Adapting Innovative Technologies to Education & Applying Educational Technology to Issues of Practice | Dr. Liz Bolt & Dr. Chris Sloan | Through these courses I developed my discernment as an educator regarding when and how to integrate what technology to best support my students. This is where I was first introduced to the concept of Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK) that continues to guide my discussion making as I craft units and lessons. During these courses, I worked on a research project, crafted creative lessons and grappled with difficult educational issues. My students' favorite lesson from last year was a lesson I crafted initially for this course that incorporated my TPACK. I took these courses together as part of a summer cohort in Galway, Ireland.
Summer 2023 | CEP 800 | Psychology of Learning in School and Other Settings | Ron Houtman & Kyle Shack | Learning is a journey. In this course I was reminded of theories of learning I had first encountered in AP Psychology in high school. From there I learned about the difference between knowledge and understanding as well as novice and expert. What was most valuable to me was learning about barriers some students have to learning as well as the ways in which adult learning differs from that of a child or adolescent. I crafted my own theory of learning based on my experiences and what I had learned in the course. I took this course online remotely.
Summer 2023 | CEP 807 | Capstone Seminar | Dr. Matthew Koehler & Megan Harris | I reflected on and synthesized my MAET work by creating an online portfolio (this website) through this course. I revisited my goals entering the MAET program and created new ones as I look ahead beyond the program. This capstone course supported me in reflecting on all that I had learned through the courses and experiences of MAET. I took this course online remotely.
Summer 2023 | CEP 813 | Electronic Assessment for Teaching and Learning | Dr. Brittany Dillman | Assessments are more than just tests. Through this course I learned the problematic history of assessments as well as the more promising present and future. I got the opportunity to craft assessments to best tap into where my students are at using some creative constraints. I throughly enjoyed broadening my understanding of what is possible in the realm of assessing students. I took this course online remotely.
Summer 2023 | CEP 822 | Approaches to Educational Research | Dr. David Wong | Through this course I became both a better consumer and producer of educational research. Through a research project about misconception in educational technology, I had the opportunity to both describe the issue, design research to further study it and then share that research out. I grew as both a researcher and as someone who consumes research and works to apply it to my teaching practice. I took this course online remotely.
